Limbo Projects

Well, I didn't have anything exciting to share this week, no new projects started or completed and I've been house/dog sitting all weekend until Wednesday.  I didn't take any projects to work on because I couldn't decide on one.  The others are all in limbo waiting to be sewn or waiting for more yarn in their needed color.  So I was just going to say, "Don't forget me.  I'll hopefully have some posts coming out next week!"

But then I came across an old friend's post about her unfinished projects' closet and her fight to keep one of her projects out of that closet.  And it made me think about what I do with my uncompleted-"but-still-working-on" projects and how I keep them out of the "I've-given-up" basket.  My fiancé gave me an old folding knitting bag from his grandmother's house last Fall and I didn't have any place to put it so it ended up next to the coffee table.

Since I try earnestly to keep things tidy in the living room, I've made it a point to put my projects in there when I'm done working on them between sittings.  I've come to find it very pleasing to have my in-progress projects nearby whenever I go to watch a TV show or movie because then I can pick up my project and begin right away without stopping the "sink-into-the-couch-and-watch-the-tube" flow.  The best part is I don't feel guilty vegging in front of the TV because I'm *working* on a project!  haha.
Lazy productivity.  ;-)

What do you do to keep your projects from becoming abandoned?

Ahh... the Royal Wedding

Can you believe it's been two months already?!  Did you wake up at 5:00am to watch it?

I watched it on broadcast TV + youtube.com because we don't have the best reception.

..... yes, I did.  But only because I hate re-broadcasts.  They always shorten & compress the real events into all the "action" tid-bits instead of letting it unfold in real time and I dislike watching history that way.  That's not how real life is and I prefer to "witness history" as closely (to being there physically) as possible.  So I woke up, dressed & was watching it on TV (with my yummy, warm coffee) by 5:20 a.m. in time to watch William & Harry get into their car & drive to Westminster Abbey.

I then proceeded to watch it on youtube.com (via the live stream) once I got into work around 8 a.m. to catch their kiss on the balcony and then watched the re-broadcast in the background on my computer while I worked on editing.  I also happened to have a little (maybe 8"?) tv monitor hooked up to cable turned to the BBC to watch a live feed.  About an hour into the rebroadcast, out of corner of my eye, I caught the couple driving in the getaway car decorated by Harry.  I quickly googled it to see if I could get more news on it (because youtube wasn't streaming live anymore) and it took about 2 or 3 hours for anything to get online about their surprise getaway.  But it was cool to see a glimpse of it on live TV since it wasn't scripted.  :)  Ah, the joys of "making history" haha.

What are your memories for the day?

Finally... A Pair of Hotmits to Sell in the Shop

Right?

What do you think of this refreshing blue & green combo for the first set of hot-mits to go into the shop?  (sorry the photos are a little dark; I took them with my phone & I don't have a good editing program yet)

In Search of a Pattern

I came across this image somewhere online (I'll have to find the link again) and now I really wish to make it.  Does anyone have a pattern for something similar to this if not like this?  I'd really appreciate any & all help.  I think it would be so comfy for the wintertime without giving women *hat hair* ;)

Dishcloth Set

Continuing with my "old pictures" theme, I thought I'd share the first dishcloth set I've made.  It lives at a family's house whom I occasionally babysit for.  They just re-did their kitchen and, ironically, the colors match *perfectly*!

Check Them Out!

I've discovered & fallen in love with the Draft feature on Etsy (I have an inkling it was there before, I just never noticed it).  So I learned my way through it to list & publish the pair of coasters Friday & worked on writing the four listings for the Dishwasher magnets Saturday afternoon.  That way they'd be ready for publishing Sunday afternoon.  :)

So *this* is how most people publish lists of items within a few minutes apart.  Smart.....

A look at my own fridge magnets.

Lord knows I love learning new things, especially when it comes to increasing efficiency.  :)

Pair of New Coasters

Just wanted to share;

I'm trying to get more things listed.  I've got a few other things waiting to make it in the shop.  Like those magnets.... Maybe they'll be Sunday's project.  :)

Robin's Egg + Brown

Speaking of going through old pictures, how's this one for being over a year old?  A few years ago I went to a spa for my Mother's birthday (along with my sister).  The atmosphere was so soothing & calm that I just wanted to take it home with me & relax in it.  It was the first time I really fell in love with the blue/brown combination.

So I made a blue/brown version of the Watermelon Purse.

And then I tried the "varied stripe length" idea on the scarf version.  I really fell in love with this look after making this scarf.

I don't remember why, but I wanted a matching headband for some outfit at the time, so I crocheted this little, tie-behind-the-head, headband.

Funny thing is, I still enjoy wearing/using all three items!  And you'd think I'd grow tired of them so quickly, made on a whim; when those are really the items that seem to stick with me the most!

Cellphone Cover

I came across old pictures on my phone from last summer.  I made this cellphone cover for H at her request.

The button is from her own collection.

I have to admit I don't use a cellphone cover a lot for my own phone, but I wonder if there could be a market for these?

What do you think? Maybe I'll make up a couple and list them.

Knitted Hand Towels

Since I guess I never posted pictures of my knitted hand towels, I thought I'd give you a peak at the two I made for myself last summer.

They've really weathered the washer/dryer pretty well, though I prefer to line dry them when it's nice out to save them from getting too beat-up.
And surprisingly, the white doesn't get too dark or dirty!

Working on a New Project

Do you think it could be the "next big thing"? :)

It Came!!!

Here it is! I'm finally on my own laptop again! Hopefully this'll mean more blog productivity....

Of course, I have to admit I've gotten a fair few projects completed as well.  I can't wait to start typing all those entries. :)  Talk soon!

Hi from Spin Class!

Last month, I had so many inspirations while riding in class that I've since started keeping a little notebook & pen on the handlebars for jotting quick notes so I don't lose any inspirations.  hehe.  Do you ever have instances like this?

Pesky Black Socks...

Finally!  I got tired of looking at those unfinished, too big black socks.  So over the weekend I wripped out BOTH socks & started them again.  This time I used my size allowance (since my feet are about an 8 1/2 to 9)

and went back and forth between both socks as I completed each step (ribbing, leg, heel flap, heel turn, gasset, foot, & toe shaping).  I couldn't believe I was able to finish the PAIR in just 3 days!
I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with how nicely they turned out, too!  Definitely more up to the quality I expect of myself.  Maybe I'm finally starting to get the hang of this sock-knitting thing?

Remember those Wedding Presents?

Well, they sure turned out nicely.  Even if the pictures didn't.  :-P  I remembered to get pictures as I was finishing up the hot-mits.  Unfortunately, I can't seem to find pictures of the completed set before I wrapped it up.  But at least you know what the dishcloths looked like and you can guess what the hand towel looked like from my previous designs (which, apparently I need to get pictures up of them).
the interior goes in & gets stitched up
the finished pair!
Sorry it took so long to get this up.  Did I take enough pictures for you?  :)  Even though these are only the hot-mits.  Hopefully I'll find the other pictures.  I could have sworn I took a picture of the towel.....

What I've learned after 4 months...

...I learned how to use a commercial/restaurant coffeemaker,

...how to learn & (mostly) understand how a production system works, then turn around & build your own efficiency into the system as you use it.  I also thought, as my finishing touch, I would type up the best parts of what I learned and save them in a few computer documents for the next intern to help shorten their learning curve.  And then they could always add to it as they felt necessary.

... and that even after only 4 months, you can be valued enough to have a send-off gift.  (I still don't think it was necessary; but it sure was sweet & unexpected)

I hope I can come back and work with everyone again soon.

Last Day

I said goodbye to my job at the Craft Store on April 28th.  It was bittersweet because I really like working with a lot of my former co-workers but I'm hopeful it will lead to more time for etsy-working & creating.  :)
Unfortunately, I also had to say goodbye to my wonderful internship (upcoming post on that soon).
Now if only I could make a few more sales.....  If you have any suggestions beyond the usual, feel free to leave a comment! :)

Yuck

I hate falling behind on blogging.  My apologies.  The internship ended and of course, right towards the end, the workload picked up so that left little time for blogging during my lunch break.  Then it ended and so did my ease of internet access (I'm currently borrowing my fiance's laptop).

I have a lot to post about, most of it from the last two weeks, but I will try to spread it out so there is not one LONG post with nothing else to look forward to.  On the exciting note, I posted a new item in my shop that I made a few years ago.  I needed something cute for a wedding or something I was attending and came up with a clutch-idea that also had a strap (because I'm always forgetting things), aka it's a shoulderbag --- but much smaller than most shoulder bags.  And, being me, I just *had* to make it in bright colors.  Let me know what you think.
